I enjoyed reading Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail”. It really opened my eyes to what a great man MLK Jr. was. He discussed peace, and the reason for the protests and why his people has resorted some violence. Martin Luther King Jr.’s letter was compelling in the fact that he was an extremist, but in a good way, and just how he wanted equality for his people.

The “Letter” surprised me because I wasn’t fully aware of what MLK Jr. stood up for. He really wanted peace with everyone and for everyone to be equal. All through the “Letter”, what really stood out to me was the fact that white supremacist basically forced Negro people to riot and become angry and violent. He believed that peace would get them farther than violence. White supremacist though ignored the peace and kept forcing the Negro people down, causing anger and out bursts.

In the “Letter” Martin Luther King Jr. frequently referenced biblical or very prominent people from history. He pointed out that they were extremists, i.e. Jesus was an extremist for love etc. It made it point blank that some of the most important people in history were extremists, but they were good. Martin Luther King Jr. was an extremist for peace. He fights for the peace and equality for everyone. He fights peacefully though, he’d rather use his words than hi fists.

That I think is the most important part of the “Letter”. There are so any people in the world that are violent and think violence is the solution for everything. When in fact, peace and calm negotiation is the best way to get through. Eventually MLK Jr.’s method worked. Negro’s get equality.
